The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Each time a prominent awards ceremony nears, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
